Introduction:
A lot of detectorists don't use pinpoint probes, but they can
be very useful, especially when you are using some of the newer,
ultra-sensitive detectors. Several makes are available, but 3 of
the most commonly used types are set out below:
SHERLOCK DTS:
Been around a while now, this one. Easy to use with decent sensitivity
- will pick up a metal object up to 20mm away. No vibration mode,
just audio indication plus a little white led. Ver similar to the
Scanmaster, below, but doesn't seem as loud in use - which can
be an issue with headphones on. Typically £20 - £25 on Ebay.

SCANMASTER:
Very similar to the Sherlock DTS - same sensitivity.
Audio signal seems louder on this model, useful when wearing headphones.
Typical price £20 ish on Ebay.

WHITES BULLSEYE II 120mm:
A more upmarket probe, with audio and vibration modes.
Well made, but not as sensitive as the Scanmaster or Sherlock DTS
- will pick up metal objects up to 15mm away. Typical price £50
- £60.
